Our biodegradable carrier bags are fully compostable and biodegradable. As a customer you want to be sure that this type of packaging effectively possesses these features of compostability. Therefore, our BioBags have been extensively tested through testing organization Vinçotte.

OK compost

The biodegradable packaging of ALPAGRO Plastics are formally certified with Vinçotte's OK compost label. This means that the packaging is guaranteed as biodegradable in an industrial composting plant (at temperatures between 55 to 60°C). This applies for the entire BioBag: both inks and additives comply with the strict requirements of the European Norm for compostable packaging (EN13432).

OK compost HOME

Many of our biopackaging also feature the OK compost HOME certification mark of Vinçotte. These products compost at lower and less constant temperatures, typically for the garden compost heap. Home composting is a more difficult and slower-paced process in comparison with an industrial composting environment. 100% biodegradability in such an environment can only be guaranteed when specific requirements are met, hence the need for an additional certification label.

How can you recognize an OK compost (HOME) packaging?

Our certified biopackaging wear at least the OK compost logo. You can discover an example of this logo at the bottom of this page. The OK compost HOME logo is similar, apart from the notice "HOME" (see left side of OK compost HOME logo). A product is only certified properly in case the S-code is mentioned on the logo. This S-number refers to the license holder of the product and guarantees the authenticity of the compostability claim. Thanks to this code Vinçotte can trace the product and take the necessary steps in case of misuse.

Why is the compostability of our packaging so important?

Through using compostable and biodegradable materials, we can contribute to controlling our waste. After use the packaging ends up in a composting environment (either industrial composting installation or garden compost heap). The packaging material degrades and can be reused as fertilizer in agriculture and horticulture. That's in contrast with conventional plastic packaging which only finds an exit to the incinerator. However the energy that is released when burning can be recovered for the production of electricity.
